The Historic Preservation Society of Social Circle presents an annual Tour of Homes, for which a number of local residents graciously welcome visitors into their historic homes, many of which date to before the Civil War.  Another local draw is the annual Friendship Festival, which takes place in the autumn. A legend has been passed down about a group of men who met the crossroads and sat around the well to have a drink. One day a stranger approached and was greeted with such warm hospitality, he said, "This is surely a social circle." Since then, the name of the village has remained Social Circle.
