BANFF, AB

Sitting on Calgary’s west side is Banff, resting on the outskirts of the magnificent Canadian Rocky Mountains. Hence why it’s no wonder how this town became such a sports haven. It is hands down the highest town in Canada with an elevation level of 4,537 feet. Housing the astounding Banff National Park that has mountains from 45 to 120 million years old. The park is also home to seven nationally historic sites: Banff Park Museum, Abbot Pass Hut, Cave and Basin, Howse Pass, Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Cosmic Ray Station and the Skoki Lodge. Although summertime has it’s perks, sightseeing, rafting and hiking are just some of the outdoor activities to participate in, winter seems to be the most opportunistic time to visit Banff. During winter, activities like ice walks, where you can explore three different canyons, snowshoeing, an introduction of sorts to show the impact of the fur trade on Western Canada, snowmobiling, dogsledding, sleigh rides –in a one-horse open sleigh if possible – heli skiing, a one-day trip that you’ll never forget and so much more are available. And with 330 days of rejuvenating sunlight you can definitely enjoy your gorgeous surroundings with the threat of rain.

Banff isn’t just for sports nuts, depending on the type of vacation you want to have, there are plenty of activities to participate in. Want to relax, learn and explore? At Banff Upper Hot Springs you can gaze at the magnificent Mount Rundle while soaking soothingly in an outdoor heated pool, receive an amazing aromatherapy massage and a Pleiades Wrapture to steam away the stresses of life. Learn about the rich history of Banff and the Canadian Rockies through the Whyte Museum. Then you can experience some of that history for yourself through the Whyte Museum of Canada and at Johnston Canyon.

In addition to the countless winter activities, Banff is a world renown festival host to the Rocky Mountain Music Festival, Banff Mountain Film Festival and the Banff World Television Festival. With festivals of fun, amazing museums and adventurist attractions, Banff is a definite all-around getaway for relaxation, learning and play.
